German citizen as any other europeans must request a visa to the nearest Russian consulate (Franskfurt, Bonn, Munich, Leipzig, Berlin or Hamburg). On June 1st 2007, an agreement has been signed between Russian federation and all countries included in EU. Germans (German passport holders) wishing to obtain a Russian visa (either tourist visa, business visa, transit or private visa – single entry, double entry, multiple entries) should fulfill some formalities and provide some important documents to the Russian embassy in berlin (Behrenstr. 66, 10117 Berlin - russisches-konsulat.de). A single or double entry visa (tourist) costs for German passport holders is 35 € if you do it in the normal period (4-20 days). The same visa in time of emergency (emission within 3 days) is twice the amount (70 €). But since November 2010, Russia ask more for German citizen applying for a visa (either tourism or business). In some case, a bank statement may be asked by the consulate officer to prove to have the fund to stay in Russia and come back. Every year, about 590 000 German citizens go to Russia.
When applying for a Russian visa, the first step the German citizens has to do is to decide what type of visa one wants / needs to apply for. The type of Russian visa that Germans will choose is not so much according to the real purpose of the trip (business or tourism) but rather the length of stay and the autonomy Germans want to have when staying in Russia.
Whatever the final choice is for German passport holders, an official invitation from an agency, a hotel, company or private person in Russia will be necessary to obtain a Russian visa. The vast majority of Germans traveling in Russia for a period of less than a month will apply for one month tourist visa. In these circumstances, the application is simple and quite straight forward when receiving your official invitation letter.
